Brew Perfect Tea

How do you make the perfect cup of tea?

Here are our fivetop tips for brewing the perfect cup of tea.

Step 1

Use fresh, filtered water

The quality of the water you use is as important as the quality of the tea.  Poor quality water can make tea undrinkable.

Step 2

Water Temperature

Different teas require different water temperatures to taste the best.  If the water is too hot the taste can be bitter and astringent.

  • Black tea, herbal tea and fruit tea require boiling water to get the flavour out. We recommend 95-100°C water temperature.
  • Green tea, white tea and oolong tea are delicate and boiling water can burn the leaves.  Therefore we recommend using 80°C water temperature.
Step 3

How much tea per cup?

There is no golden rule, tea tasting is highly subjective and influenced by personal preference but here is a guide:

  • 1 teabags per 150-200ml
  • 1 perfect teaspoon of loose tea per 150-200ml
  • 1.5 perfect teaspoons of fruit tea per 150-200ml
Step 4

Brewing Time

Big leaves need time to work their magic.  You will get the most delicious cuppa if you follow this brewing guide:

  • Black tea:  3-5 minutes brewing time
  • Fruit tea:  3-5 minutes brewing time
  • Herbal tea:  3-5 minutes brewing time
  • Oolong tea:  2-3 minutes brewing time
  • Green tea:  2-3 minutes brewing time
  • White tea:  1-2 minutes brewing time
And finally, milk or no milk?
Yes to black tea and rooibos tea.  No milk needed in fruit tea, oolong tea, white tea and green tea.  Herbals are a maybe when it comes to milk, some of our caffeine free chai's are delicious with a splash of milk.  Check out Organic Yoga.
If you are adding milk, remember to let the tea brew first - water before milk - never the other way around.
